ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Customs Manager, your main responsibility is to establish a new customs brokerage division and lead a team that ensures compliance with regulations, prepares documentation, offers expert guidance, manages clearance processes, resolves issues and stays abreast of industry developments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will:

  • Customs Compliance: Ensure that all imports and exports comply with local, national, and international regulations and standards.
  • Documentation: Prepare and review required documentation, including import/export declarations, invoices, and packing lists that adhere to Australian Government and customs acts.
  • Regulatory Guidance: Provide expert advice on Customs/AQIS laws, tariffs, and trade agreements to clients and internal teams.
  • Customs Clearance: Coordinate and manage the customs clearance process, addressing any issues or discrepancies that arise.
  • Client Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for clients and staff regarding customs-related inquiries and issues.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all customs transactions and documentation.
  • Problem Resolution: Resolve any issues or disputes related to customs clearance or regulations.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with changes in customs regulations, trade policies, and industry best practices.
  • Value add: Use your experience and skill sets to work closely with other departments on key IDS initiatives where applicable.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will need to have the following skills and attributes:

  • Certification: Up to date and in order customs brokerage license and certification as per Australian border force requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in customs brokerage, international trade, or a related field with experience in team building
  • Strong understanding of customs/AQIS regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational abilities.
  • Proficiency in customs brokerage software and systems.
  • Proficiency in Cargo Wise software
  • MS Office skills and advantage
  • Attributes: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset. Team player prepared to drive excellence and go the extra mile.
