The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges for supply chains across the Asia Pacific. Multiple national lockdowns slowed or even temporarily stopped the flow of raw materials and finished goods, disrupting supply chains as a result. However, the pandemic has not necessarily created any new challenges for supply chains. In some areas, it brought to light previously unseen vulnerabilities, and of course, many organizations have suffered staff shortages and losses due to COVID-19. But overall, it has accelerated and magnified problems that already existed in the supply chain.
The following are some findings from a survey that Bastian Consulting conducted in early 2021 to assess the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on supply chains across the Asia Pacific. The respondents were 1000 senior-level supply chain executives at organizations across the region.
- In Australia, 42% of executives say that their supply chain was affected by the pandemic.
- 19% of supply chain leaders in India laid off more staff during the pandemic.
- 39% of supply chain leaders in Malaysia say revenue decreased during the pandemic.
