Distribution Centre Manager Role in NSW: Lead and Transform Operations

On-site, Permanent
Central Coast, NSW
Posted 1 week ago

There are operations roles where you spend your time keeping things afloat.

And then there are roles where you step in and genuinely change how the operation runs, performs, and grows.

This is the second type.

We’re partnering with a well-established business in the building products / exteriors sector to appoint a Distribution Centre Manager based on the NSW Central Coast; a role that sits at the heart of a busy, high-volume logistics operation supporting customers, trade partners, and internal sales teams.

This is not a “maintenance” leadership role. It’s a chance to take ownership of a distribution centre and actively lift it — in performance, culture, efficiency, and capability.

For the right person, it’s a rare opportunity to step into a stable business, in a resilient industry, and make a measurable impact on how the operation runs every single day.

Why this Distribution Centre Manager role exists

This DC is already operationally sound — but like many high-volume distribution environments, the opportunity now is optimisation.

The business is investing in strengthening its logistics capability, improving end-to-end efficiency, and building a stronger performance culture across warehousing, transport coordination, and inventory management.

They are looking for a leader who doesn’t just “run the site”, but actively improves it — someone who sees gaps, builds structure, develops people, and lifts performance through clear thinking and strong execution.

What makes this opportunity compelling

This is a role that offers real operational ownership without corporate overload or unnecessary layers of bureaucracy.

You will be responsible for the full end-to-end performance of the distribution centre, including receiving, storage, picking, dispatch, transport coordination, inventory control, and team leadership.

But more importantly, you will have the scope to shape how the site operates.

Key highlights include:

  • Full ownership of a busy NSW Central Coast distribution centre
  • Leadership of a multi-disciplinary warehouse and logistics team
  • Direct responsibility for daily operations and long-term performance improvement
  • Strong focus on Lean principles, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Influence over cost control, efficiency gains, and service performance outcomes
  • Hands-on use of modern warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory tools
  • Close collaboration with sales, customer service, and supply chain stakeholders
  • Engagement with transport carriers and external logistics partners
  • A stable, long-established business operating in a resilient, essential industry

This is the type of environment where operational leaders thrive — because results are visible, impact is immediate, and improvements are tangible.

What success looks like

Success in this role is not defined by simply “keeping the warehouse running smoothly”.

It’s about raising the standard of the operation.

Within the first 6–12 months, success would look like:

  • Improved order accuracy and dispatch reliability
  • Stronger stock integrity and inventory visibility
  • More efficient warehouse layout, space utilisation, and flow
  • Clearer KPI tracking and performance accountability across the team
  • A stronger safety culture with consistent WHSE compliance
  • Improved labour productivity and workforce engagement
  • Better alignment between warehouse, transport, and customer service teams
  • A visible shift toward continuous improvement thinking at site level

Ultimately, you will be accountable for ensuring the DC is not only operationally stable, but continuously improving in how it delivers for customers and the business.

What kind of leader will succeed here

This role will suit someone who has already led in warehouse, logistics, or distribution environments — ideally in high-volume or fast-moving operations.

You’ll likely be someone who is:

  • Experienced in DC management, warehouse leadership, or transport operations
  • Confident working with KPIs, reporting, and operational data
  • Comfortable making decisions in real-time operational environments
  • Strong in planning, prioritisation, and workforce coordination
  • Naturally hands-on, not removed from the operation
  • Capable of building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams
  • Familiar with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (or similar practical application of process improvement)
  • Commercially aware — understands how operations impact cost, service, and margin

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes ownership. Not just of outcomes, but of how those outcomes are achieved.

Why people consider this move

For many experienced DC and logistics leaders, roles like this become attractive for a few key reasons:

Stability — a long-established business in a core construction-related sector
Scope — real ownership of a site, not just a function
Influence — ability to shape systems, processes, and team performance
Balance — strong operational challenge without unnecessary corporate complexity
Impact — visible results from improvements you implement

It’s the kind of role where your decisions are felt immediately; in the warehouse, on the floor, and in customer outcomes.

Location

This role is based on the NSW Central Coast, offering a strong balance between coastal lifestyle and accessibility to Sydney and Newcastle corridors.
