ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client in currently in the process of increasing their production footprint by expanding into Australasian territories. To achieve this, they are seeking an ambitious, passionate and self-motivated Technical Manager to join their Group Technical and Quality team.

This role will entail overseeing the identification and implementation of new product development, packaging and product solutions in Australia, with a specific focus on commissioning the new production facility. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and confident project manager with excellent communication skills, a keen sense of timelines, and a drive to efficiently lead projects from concept to completion.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, the chosen candidate will manage and implement all technical and quality work streams, while closely monitoring budgets and schedules to ensure projects remain on track. This position will be primarily remote, with periodic travel to the production facility in Melbourne, and will report to the Head of Technical based in the UK.

RESPONSBILITIES

The successful candidate will:

  • Responsible for being the technical lead on the commissioning of new production lines and flawless delivery of innovation and existing product development projects as well as product (liquid and packaging) and process improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively project manage all technical aspects of the project, creating and managing the project timeline, critical path and budget as well as generating risk mitigation plans and communicating status reports and escalating critical issues.
  • Coordinating and facilitating project meetings including kick-off meetings, project team meetings, risk assessments, lessons learned, post launch reviews and additional meetings as required.
  • Ensuring cross-functional collaboration and effectively forming partnerships with stakeholders providing proactive communication on project status and activities.
  • Actively managing technical risk by proactively identifying risks, developing mitigation plans and implementing corrective action when necessary.
  • Designing and developing testing plans tailored to the project requirements and meeting business deliverables.
  • Arranging and completing trials and assessing trial results.
  • Developing standard practices, ways of working and processes across Supply Chain and NPD with proactive management of business and project KPIs.
  • Driving and supporting food safety, product quality and supplier quality management across new manufacturing sites and suppliers.
  • Ensuring a quality assurance culture throughout suppliers and co-manufacturers.
  • Identifying, leading and facilitating product quality initiatives across manufacturing sites.
  • Auditing the food safety and quality processes of manufacturing sites and suppliers.
  • Resolving issues quickly and effectively.
  • Supporting and helping drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Developing standard practices, ways of working and processes.
  • Ensuring adherence to company, CSR, retailers and local Australian policies.
  • Acting as the key contact and relationship owner with the new copacker, along with the market GM.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will need to have the following skills and attributes:

  • Technical knowledge of product development, packaging development and trialling/commissioning with a high level of accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of project management techniques and best practice.
  • Track record of delivery of new product technical development from concept to commercialisation driving a collaborative culture working with cross functional teams.
  • Great relationship management skills with strong influencing, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Ability to self-manage resource with leadership and management experience and personal accountability for results.
  • Excellent eye for detail with the ability to work at pace to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and abilities in stakeholder management.
  • Ability to present information in a rational, structured and concise manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of BRC/IFS/SQF, auditing, HACCP, food safety, quality systems, allergen management and compliance.
  • Technical knowledge of quality systems/processes legislation.
