Our client is Australia’s largest 3PL provider specialised in warehousing and order fulfilment services to eCommerce and traditional retail stores. They fulfil over 20 million sales orders per year for their clients which feature many iconic retailers which have a retail store and eCommerce presence.

Their fulfilment centers feature AI powered autonomous mobile robots which support the team in providing same day delivery on sales orders received as late as 4pm and cloud based logistics software which make it easy for retailers to manage inventory and orders.

From the ground up, the business has been built to service complex profiles and volumes. This has involved developing systems, processes and teams which deliver cost-effective order fulfilment solutions while maintaining a high level of accuracy and speed of fulfilment.

They see themselves as partly a logistics company, partly a technology company and partly a data analytics company. 

The Position

The DC Site Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of a site, reporting to the state manager or Operations Director. The DC Site Manager is expected to own and resolve sometimes complex operational and logistics challenges in a manner always ensuring regulatory and legislative compliance, in the most efficient manner in line with agreed standards in operational procedures. DC Site Managers are accountable for multiple operational functions within their site, with direct supervision of Operation Managers and or supervisors for example, Inbound, Outbound and Inventory Controllers.

The DC Site Manager is expected to ensure the successful operation of a site, encompassing safety, customer service SLA achievement, and direct cost performance through operational excellence.



  • Sound working knowledge and supervisor experience in all areas of the warehouse.
  • Liaise with senior management, accounts payable, vendors and customers with respect to warehouse operations.
  • Plan activities and coordinate with others autonomously to achieve results on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ensure others work to the highest standards of safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Ensure that Site Housekeeping is maintained to a very high standard, and that the site is always presentable for existing clients, prospective clients and supplier site visits.
  • Assess customer needs effectively and weigh alternative approaches ensuring the customer is put first.
  • Ensure the site is tidy and implement 5S principles to sustain standards.
  • Ensure all equipment is available and in good order and condition.
  • Identify Continuous Improvement opportunities on operational processes and flow.
  • Function Assessment (Process Auditing).
  • Highlight damages and hazards to the site leadership team.
  • Actively and visibly participate in Safety Observations, Workplace Inspections and incident/hazard reporting.
  • Accountable for the Profit and Loss (P&L) reporting of the warehouse.
  • Accountable for all direct cost labour performance within the warehouse.
  • First point of operational contact for the site.
  • Ensure all inbound and outbound customer SLAs are met or exceeded each day. In the event of SLA failure, proactively reporting through to management with:
    o Analysis of cause, involving the Supervisors and relevant Team Leads in the discovery/ investigation process.
    o Proposed solution to prevent SLA failure.
    o Ensure that customer service escalations and requests get actioned by the site operations team.
  • Time and Attendance Management, including sign off on all Team Members shifts.
  • Accountable for performance reviews – Coordinating appropriate action for staff unable to meet KPls and to recognise and reward staff who exceed KPls.
  • Be the first escalation point for the supervisors and team leaders onsite.
  • Conduct regular leadership reviews with the site leadership team to ensure the right operational structure is in place to meet the performance and profitability objectives of the site.
  • Directly responsible for Safety, Training and Disciplinary topics on site, escalating to site manager and OH&S management as required. This includes:
    o Identifying safety risks and putting corrective actions in place.
    o Identifying issues with quality of work or compliance that require additional training of staff
    o Cultural leader for safety excellence
  • Accountable for ensuring high inventory accuracy through process controls of all operational areas.
  • Accountable for all Customer Service queries related to the site.
  • Management of the site’s pallet control, including Hired and Owed Pallets.
  • Identify opportunities for operational optimisation through slotting, consolidation and zoning of customers inventory.
  • Responsible for managing operational engagement for suppliers (Waste providers, cartage providers, freight carriers etc).
  • Responsible for ensuring all MHE is operating at full capacity, inclusive of Supplier Management and breakdowns.
  • Accountable for Asset Management across the site (MHE, RF Units, Trolleys, etc)

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Warehousing & Distribution and/or Transport & Logistics preferred
  • Drivers Licence (car)
  • Intermediate computer software skills (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Warehouse Management Systems exposure and experience
  • Minimum 5 years operations experience gained within the consumer goods/ecommerce sector.
  • Proven track record of success in improving efficiencies within a distribution environment.
  • Experience of working cross functionally different stakeholders
  • Project Management skillset
  • Exceptional communication skills, presenting skills
  • Well-developed planning, organisational, analytical skills
